How Much Marijuana may I Carry at a Time?
Most patients want to know "how much marijuana may I carry". In Florida, the law controls marijuana possession. Currently, recreational use is illegal. Yet, Amendment 3 might change this, allowing adults 21 and over to have 3 ounces of marijuana or 5 grams of concentrate. As a qualified patient or designated caregiver, you may purchase up to a 70-day supply of medical cannabis products from one of the medical marijuana Florida dispensary locations. Within State-defined limits, the amount you receive for your 70-day prescription supply is determined by your physician. Holding up to 20 grams of recreational marijuana is a misdemeanor. Conviction could lead to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Laws do change, so always check the latest or consult a lawyer.
Special Rules for Minors: Florida lets minors use medical marijuana with a doctor’s recommendation. But, marijuana can harm teens’ health, affecting thinking, memory, coordination, and attention.
For Minors to Use Medical Marijuana:
- Two doctors must agree it’s more helpful than harmful.
- The OMMU must approve a Consent for Minor Qualified Patient form before applying for a medical marijuana card.
- Doctors can’t prescribe smokable marijuana to minors unless they’re terminally ill; it’s the best method, and a pediatrician agrees.
- Only a caregiver can buy or give marijuana to a minor patient.
Higher Doses: Patients needing more for chronic pain or cancer can ask to exceed limits. The OMMU reviews these requests and responds within 14 days.
